A 16 foot boat was swept into the breakers at Alsea Bay Oregon during the
ebb, a couple of days ago. 2 of the 3 occupants died. This spot regularly
consumes the unwary as about very 5 years or so something like this happens
at this entrance. Calling this an entrance is a bit of a stretch as it is
more like a creek flowing into the ocean with water depths of about 2 feet
at low tide. There was a 10 foot runoff the day and time this happened.

It would appear that the operator did not have an anchor or emergency
signals aboard. The Coast Guard Helo messed up big time when they assumed
that there was no distress and called off the search without proper
confirmation.

The lesson here is that small boats, even dinghys need proper safety
equipment. Flares, anchor/line, oars, vhf?, spark plugs and wrench to
replace, lifejackets.
