Please join us for a discussion on adult education practice and policy - January 4, 2017 at 4 pm ET.
(https://www.gotomeeting.com/join/288734317 online or on the phone, see below)
Integrated Education and Training (IET) is an important instructional strategy supported by WIOA. The National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium (NAEPDC) and the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASPhttp://www.clasp.org) have been fielding a national survey to learn how adult educators are currently using IET. These survey results are intended to support IET professional learning, implementation, and the development of policy & guidance on IET.
During this call, we will briefly review CLASP's IET guidancehttp://www.clasp.org/resources-and-publications/publication-1/WIOA-IET-Model-Programs.pdf and the current results of the IET survey from Anson Green of the Texas Workforce Commissionhttp://www.twc.state.tx.us/students/adult-education, and hear from Sara Hastings of DOLETAhttps://doleta.gov, Andy Nash of World Educationhttp://www.worlded.org/WEIInternet/us/inc/_display_related_proj_descs.cfm, Blaire Toso and Carol Clymer of the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacyhttp://ed.psu.edu/isal/, and Amanda Bergson-Shilcock of the National Skills Coalitionhttp://www.nationalskillscoalition.org/ on their IET work, discuss the latest OCTAE guidance on IET with Sue Lui of Manhattan Strategy Grouphttp://www.manhattanstrategy.com/, and brainstorm policy strategies for scaling IET to serve a wide spectrum of adult learners.

Folks,
I’m sorry to report that it’s not looking like I can be on the call this afternoon. I know the focus of the call is on IET presentations, so not sure if there was going to be time to talk about anything else anyway. In any case, wanted to pass along a couple of things:
The Senate HELP Committee just published a hearing notice for the Nomination of Betsy DeVos to serve as Secretary of Education. It will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., in 430 Dirksen. http://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/nomination-of-betsy-devos-to-serve-as-secretary-of-education
There is chatter of concern today among education folks here over one of the provisions in the House Rules package — one that was mentioned in the CEF update I sent around yesterday — the return of the so-called "Holman Rule", which allows lawmakers to come to the House floor and offer amendments to appropriations bills to reduce the amount of money or reduce the number or salaries of federal employees. This appears to me to be bad, although adult ed itself is rarely in anyone’s crosshairs. And not sure what can be done. Awaiting further analysis. And to find out who the heck Holman was.

This is much bigger than adult ed, obviously, but as Jeff says adult ed could very well be affected.
