I seem to remember the Dashew's writing something about vertical acceleration
being the most bothersome to people. Thus their bed is near the boat CG ,
theirs is also set up to lay fore/aft, presumably since that would result in
less head vertical movement than port/stbd on their monos anyway.

Subject: [PCW] PCW] WHICH WAY SHOULD BEDS GO?
I have to agree with Henry on
the overall location of the beds
themselves. I am also a PDQ 34 owner and have
spent many nights onboard,
often at anchor. The least motion experienced is in
the aft of these
boats. The most memorable (unsettled) sleeping motion I can
recall was
in Annapolis Harbor late in October during a Northeast Blow. We
were on
a mooring ball in the harbor off of the Naval Academy seawall and talk
about a confused chop! The water there simply has no place to go due to
the
containment of the harbor so we moved at all angles all night. No
real rhythm
or pattern. Of course the Admiral remembers not a thing but
I was a body in
motion. That night a good friend who was tied up to a T
head suffered some
damage due to the wave action. I also feel that the
orientation of the beds
being "port - stbd" keeps any beam sea condition
easier to deal with. Head to
toe motion is more comfy than side to side
IMHO.
