I received a "rough ballpark estimate" of about $10,000 to do 150 square
feet (the main deck on a 36' Albin trawler). Its not rocket science but is
tons of labor. good luck...

Subject: TWL: Replacing Teak Decks

I'm trying to get a ballpark idea what it cost to have a yard replace teak
decks on a per sq. ft. basis.  I realize it will vary boat to boat but I'm
just trying to establish a budget level right now.  Anyone had this work
done?
Thanks

There are three important things to remember.

  1. What are your standards for the completed project? As someone once
suggested, are you looking for a job that looks good from 6 feet or more, or
are you seeking a "perfect" job.

  2. Is the vendor known for using high quality teak lumber?

  3. Is the vendor known for the quality of their work?

Finally, some high-end places might surprise you - especially for off-season
work. For example, ask Hinckley and Zimmerman for a quote. They give firm
quotes. You should also ask Zanheiser and the other outfit in Solomons which
specializes in trawlers. Is there prep work that you can do - such as
removing the existing deck?
