From a recent email from the Nordhavn 46 Arcturus:
Halleluiah!
At 06.00 today, Arcturus and her crew of two entered the Sutera
Marina at Kota Kinabalu. We traveled 3,051-nautical miles
(3,500-statute miles) during this one-stop blue-water passage. The
ground we covered is roughly equal to the distance from New York
City to LA and then back to Albuquerque.
We had our share of good luck. Arcturus ran flawlessly, but our
radar failed three days ago and now runs intermittently. We had
nervous moments as we threaded our way through the coral reefs of
Balabac Strait at night using charts, depth sounders and night
vision equipment. We missed the typhoon that killed so many in the
Philippines by a mere, 30-hour.
We'll spend several months on Borneo learning about its people,
their customs, and what it's like to live on the third largest
island in the world. Then we will move on to Singapore and up to
Thailand. Asia is a world away from the other places we have
visited. We have a much to learn and are looking forward to the time
we will spend here.
All the Best,
Fred and Chris
