Rupert,
Thanks for your kind comments on the Lady Kristiana web site. Yes you
are
right about the Cat A rating referring to the boats CE coding - don't
think the crew would be up for this sort of weather though!
kind regards

QED News - Meeting
Monitor (M2) system launch
We are pleased to announce the launch of the QED
Meeting Monitor (M2) system.
This is an application that leverages the
standard Lotus Notes Resource
Reservation system and enables real-time
information for each meeting room to
be displayed on a colour coded LCD
display outside each room. This provides
improved visibility of meeting room
availability, better usage of room
resources and allows free rooms to be
instantly utilised for impromptu meetings.
With a low cost hardware
requirement and use of standard network cabling this
is a simple installation
that will quickly pay for itself. For a brochure click
on this link

for Peter
Liddle or Ian Fisher.

Thanks for that, Ian (Sorry about the James before). I never actually
realised that F-P catas achieved Cat. A status (or B for that
matter), and I have been giving serious thought to them myself for
some time. Returning to the power aspect, however, (which is the
point of this forum), which engines do you have on her? I am thinking
that sailing her around Gsy, for example, (just in front of you,
which is where I live some periods of the year), and finding oneself
in something like a force 8, you would need something powerful to
avoid being swept onto the submerged rocks of which there are more
than a few. Not, as you say, that you would willingly set out in such
weather, but we can safely hypothesize, without taking the risks. >)
Best,
Rupert.

Power Catamaran List,
I find that hard to believe,
I am the owner of a Maryland 37 which has a
BCDE rating and I don't believe that either. How can a
vessel that has no mechanical attachments between the
hulls and the deck receive that kind of rating ? Also
the hull material is so thin it seems that it would
disintegrate when it hit anything or would come apart.
Unhappy owner,
Michael

Your unfortunate experience with your Fountaine-Pajot dealer does not appear
to be universal.
Your dissatisfaction with your boat is well known on this list but your
comments have little relevance to EU RCD ratings: See below-
The Regulation
The RCD Essential Safety Requirements state that 'The craft shall have
sufficient stability and freeboard considering its design category. and the
manufacturer's maximum recommended load', and 'The craft shall be
constructed to ensure that it has buoyancy characteristics appropriate to
its design category. and the manufacturer's maximum recommended load.'
The RCD introduced Design Categories to ensure that craft have acceptable
minimum stability, freeboard and buoyancy to cope with the environmental
conditions for which the boat is designed.
And for further detail
http://www.ibinews.com/ibinews/ebb/tech_6.html
The standard also covers design, construction and materials but the emphasis
is on stability.
