Hi Greg, I build power cats in Cape Town, South Africa. I have 38 and 42 Cats with semi-displacement hulls featuring straight shafts with inboard diesel engines. You get better mileage by far with this system than outboards. Also maintenance on outboards is high and they are gas powered which drops resale. I don't know of any large cats with outboards, but I will say Glacier Bay makes a nice boat in the mid 30's with outboards. I highly recommend diesel on the ocean.
