SustainableWorks is the culmination of the efforts of hundreds of
Washington residents acting on their concerns for the environment, energy
independence, equity, and local living wage jobs. Our nonprofit was
originally established by the grass roots efforts of local environmental,
labor, and social justice advocates. Six months ago we brought our arsenal
of state funded incentives, grants, enhanced financing, and quality
oversight to support the Tacoma community in meeting their conservation
goals.
To date, through the combined efforts of staff, volunteers, partners, and
participants we have assisted 96 homeowners in making their homes more
efficient, comfortable, and safe. We have already conserved the energy
equivalent of permanently removing 45 cars from the streets.
SustainableWorks has provided $32,495 in grant funding to local homeowners,
buying-down the cost of their projects in addition to local utility
rebates. These projects will result in over 3.9 Million kWh of conservation
over the next 20 years… and we are just getting started.
Recently an email was circulated through this listserv entitled ‘Serious
Cause for Concern’ with complaints from Frank and Kathleen Erickson. The
team at SustainableWorks take complaints very seriously, and we are working
directly with the Erickson’s to address all of their concerns. We strive
for 100% satisfaction, and will continue to address their concerns and
utilize this as an opportunity to improve.
In regards to the comments about a lien, dispute, and work standards-
SustainableWorks has serviced over 3000 homeowners in Washington State and
has never had a lien issued on a participant. Not now, not ever.
The SustainableWorks weatherization crew is comprised entirely of Journey
level Union Laborers. These LIUNA trained technicians maintain a
residential weatherization certification and complete regular continuing
education. Crew leads are Lead RRP and OSHA 10 certified. Staff is cross
trained on whole house systems and building science basics. All staff
undergo an extensive background check and attend weekly safety briefings.
At no time is an entry level worker ever left unattended on a worksite. We
are dedicated to building a high quality local efficiency workforce.
There is no dispute between SustainableWorks and Sunset Air. They remain a
valued contractor partner providing local energy services and quality jobs
to the Tacoma community and were paid in full for the project at the time
the email was circulated.
On behalf of the entire team, our apologies for any disruption. We look
forward to continuing our efforts to mitigate the effects of climate
change, and build a local green economy in Tacoma.
