I continue to be amazed at the wealth of information
that I gather from this use group.
I was not aware of diesel outboards until I read about
them here.
Going the YANMAR web site I see that they are not
available in the U.S. due to emissions - yet.

How much do these engines weigh?
Approximate Cost in dollars?
Are there any rumors about cleaning up the emissions
so they can be sold in the U.S.?
I can see a huge advantage to only having one type of
fuel on board for boat, generator, and shore boat.

As you can see, the weight is 269 pounds. At today's exchange rate,
the Canadian price works out to US$19,855.
You can get a lot more horsepower for less money with gasoline
outboards; nevertheless, if economy of operation rather than speed is
the prime consideration, then the Yanmar diesels are an option.
And they are proven engines. The first trans-Pacific multihull under
power was a trimaran propelled by Yanmar diesel outboards.
Yanmar/Baltek Endeavour was designed by Morrelli & Melvin for
adventurer Steve Shidler of San Francisco. His design requirements
included exceptional range--2,700 nautical miles powered with two
Yanmar 27-hp outboards--along with the ability to fit into a shipping
container. Endeavour's mission, to make a record 4,443-nm run from
San Francisco to Honolulu, Hawaii, to Sydney, Australia, was
accomplished in 1989 with an average speed of 8.93 knots, burning
only 1.86 gallons per hour.
