Birding at Windsor Locks Canal area and watched a bird for about 30 minutes, trying to identify either a Bittern or a Green Heron “subadult.”  Approximately the size of a small hawk, moving solo in the canal, perched on old log, and was preening. Definitely had some darker coloration on top of head, yellow area around eyes, a pointed beak,  streaky rust coloring on front with white underbelly. Wings were rusty/ light-brown/ tan and noted darker coloring around edges of wings when it flew, and yellow legs. It had a long neck when it looked upwards otherwise held a crouched pose when perched.
About 50 fuzzy photos and 10 video clips later- I still am uncertain.
If anyone has any tips or experience identifying these birds and willing to look at a few photos or videos, please let me know. I may find somewhere on FB to post a few.
Thanks
