A fisherman from Washington State is interested in buying a 42ft Canadian built Canadian Registered commercial fishing vessel from me. He has been quoted $US8500 for "admeasure" Does anyone know what this is about??

"Admeasurement" is the way tonnage is figured. Tonnage is a measurement
of interior volume, not weight, and calculating it accurately is
something of a black art.
We recreational boaters are fortunate inasmuch as we are generally
allowed, with few exceptions, to "estimate" the tonnage for
documentation purposes using a formula based on length, breadth, "depth"
(not draft), and hull shape. The vast majority of documented pleasure
boats use the formula rather than having tonnage admeasured, which leads
to interesting results: two pleasure boats may have the same documented
tonnage and yet vastly different actual interior volume.
Commercial fishing vessels imported to the US from Canada enjoy no such
exemption and must be admeasured for actual tonnage. For example, see
