Ontario Birders
Effective April 4th Hiawatha First Nation closed access to the ENTIRE
Hiawatha First Nation lands to all non-residents, due to the COVID-19
outbreak.
Unfortunately for birders - this means that there will be NO access to
Herkimer Point, or any other roads off of Hiawatha Line, until further
notice. Herkimer Point is a eBird hotspot in Peterborough County.
In the next few days - barricades will be erected, and volunteers will be
checking drivers licenses and status cards to confirm residency. These
efforts will remain in place while
the HFN is under State of Emergency and Shelter-In-Place orders.
