From “Voices” by Mauricio Robalino
3rd Thursday Newsletter
Issue: 49
Date: February 20, 2025
Dear Reader,
This, the February edition of the 3rd Thursday Newsletter
https://www.beeugenebecreative.com/blog, is the second to the last one
we’ll be issuing. After a total of fifty months of sharing upcoming events
with the South Sound literary arts community we’ve decided to take a break
and focus on new adventures. There are so many other opportunities to learn
about happenings in our community, and we’re still going to be a part of
that community, but we’re just not going to be in this space. Maybe
something analog…
Since this newsletter started, we are eager to share these upcoming
events!
Voices of Tacoma https://www.beeugenebecreative.com/voicesoftacoma’s
two-plus year partnership with Tacoma Public Library continues as we host
our Gathering of Poets events each month. We welcome poets and lovers of
poetry to join us. Bring a piece to read or just come to listen. It’s an
informal free writers’ group that is open to all! Please note, the first
Gathering in March is at Moore Library (215 S 56th St, Tacoma, 98408) and
the rest are at Swasey Library (7001 6th Ave, Tacoma, 98406).
All Gatherings are from 6pm to 7:30pm:

The artist Mauricio Robalino
https://www.artpeople.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqrdTny2iWWR91Hvxol0-7jqY3yVDeMw_3Kj0Sl8JnpOkjfhQhn,
who created the cover art and the illustrations for the anthology, is again
partnering with #VoicesOfTacoma to create a coloring book! Expected to be
ready for purchase in early January, the book will include all of the
artwork from the anthology for artists of all ages to color and to make
Mauricio’s amazing work their own.
Local poet Burl E. Battersby and Tacoma musician Nic Daniel are
collaborating on a musical piece that is an ode to mothers. The suite of
five songs will be set to the words of Burl’s poem, Wild Rose. We are
currently raising the funds to be able to produce and record and we need
your help! Support us https://gofund.me/09394f4f so we can make something
beautiful!
