Good morning, folks:
My Town had a resident come and pitch the idea of getting an animal shelter going at our governing body's last regular meeting. Stray animals are a tremendous nuisance in the community currently. Evidently, a corporation gave us a 99-year lease a while back on a piece of property and derelict building in Town limits for the purposes of operating a shelter. Some attempts have been made over the years to get one going, but they've always fizzled out due to lack of bodies or funds.
I've been asked to look into what it would take to get one going, so I figured I'd poll this group. Those of you whose clients have municipal shelters, what does the operation look like? Is it administered under the municipal government, or a trust? What do you do for funding? How many personnel? Any pitfalls to be aware of?
Appreciate any info you all would be willing to share,
