Protecting Immigrant Families,
Advancing Our Future

PIF Campaign - Weekly Updates and Resources
Dear Allies,

Thanks to each of you for your continued commitment to making our country a place where immigrants are welcome and their families can thrive. Although the public charge rule is not out, we still anticipate publication in the coming weeks. In an interview last Wednesdayhttps://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=b8b88e58cc&e=7d6c24bb7d, USCIS Director Francis Cissna said the agency wants to “issue proper regulations” on public charge and expects “thousands and thousands of comments” once the proposal is published. We also continue to see increased media coverage, with many articles indicating that public charge is a high priority for the Trump Administration leading up to the midterm elections.

How you can prepare and take action before the rule is published * Identify community members who are willing to share their story. Help us fight this rule by sharing stories of how programs lift up individuals, families and communities, and to document the harm that this regulation will cause. If you or someone you know will be affected by this regulation and would be interested in sharing a personal story, please fill out this short form<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=2198fa62a9&e=7d6c24bb7d>. * Sign on to our statement opposing public charge. If you have not already, please add your name<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=fc4718a7d0&e=7d6c24bb7d>. We want as many organizations as possible on the statement, which we will release shortly after the proposed rule is published. * Respond to the recent news coverage by writing a letter to the editor of a local paper. This recent letter from a physician in Oregon<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=7fe480ecbd&e=7d6c24bb7d> is a great example. * Review and share resources from the Protecting Immigrant Families Campaign and our partners at www.protectingimmigrantfamilies.org/resources<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=995cc4b256&e=7d6c24bb7d>. New resources * Health coverage maps. There is a new webpage to mobilize the AAPI population around public charge: https://www.onenationaapi.com/<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=5b92f6c099&e=7d6c24bb7d>. This site was developed by multiple partners and is an online space for providing resources and updates, as well as taking joint actions. * Research. A new report in the International Journal of Health Services looks at the health care expenditures of immigrants and concludes that “insurance and medical care should be made more available to immigrants rather than less so.” To review the full article click here<https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=98e0d5befd&e=7d6c24bb7d>.
