Marina Safety - Undocking in Norway

The docking Master and/or Harbor pilot on board at the time and in charge of the tugs will certainly have a lot to answer for. The shipowner has mandatory insurance that will cover the damages to the small boats as well as the marina without the ship having to stay in the port. Especially with the video, there will be no contesting the allegation, just a question of who was liable, the shipowner or the pilot. In many countries, the pilots are absolved of any liability as they claim that the Captain of the ship never reqinquishes command and should override any ill-made decisions by the pilots.  I had a case many years ago where a pilot undocked on of my ships and backed it full across the East River and into the island of Manhattan. The courts absolved the pilot and tug company (for whom he worked) of any responsibility and made the shipowner pay the nearly $1million in repair costs. Thank goodness for insurance!

I just hope that there wasn't anyone aboard those small boats at the time.

I would have to say that the tugs had a lot to do with the control of the bigger ship. Someone was not doing their job as "eyes" for the captain.
