I am now using a recent snapshot, but the initial startup time for that
program is probably 5x longer than for older versions. If I then run the
recent snapshot again, it loads in a more reasonable time. Any plans to
reduce program load time?
Yes I have noticed slow startups. When I run the command line tests of
NopSCADlib the times I measure are at least 2 seconds longer than I get in
the GUI. I.e. it takes the command line 2 seconds to do nothing, which
seems excessive on a machine that runs from an SSD and presumably has the
executable cached after the first test.

I see no visible difference whatsoever between the release 2021.01
and snapshot version 2023.05.19. Both start in less than a second
to an empty editor window on my old underclocked notebook. This is
on Debian using the native packages.
ciao,
Torsten.
Torsten:
And now I cannot reproduce this. Sorry for the false alarm. Maybe a
hard disk spinup time that I was not aware of.

Torsten:
Now I recall the problem.
When I start the 2021.01 release and click New, it takes 2 seconds
before OpenSCAD comes up and is available.
When I do this with 2023.05.05, it takes 13 seconds before the form
appears and an additional 8 seconds before I can actually use OpenSCAD.

I just opened a Recent SCAD file in 2023.05.05 and it took 19 seconds
before I could start working on the file. This on an 8 core
[irrelevant!] 4 GHz processor
