THREE NIGHTS OF OCEAN FILM
The second annual Tacoma Ocean Film Fest is happening this week! From 7-9pm Wed-Thur-Fri at The Grand Cinema, dive into local and global ocean film. Tickets $12/$10/free for Tacoma students. Here's the lineup:
7pm June 15: ISLAND SONG

Rooted (Mia Kami, Tonga) - A music video from Nia Tero about indigenous guardianship of our oceans.
Voice Above Water (Dana Frankoff, USA, virtual Q&A) - A 90-year-old who picks up plastic trash from a canoe to save his Indonesian island.
Small Island, Big Song (Tim Cole, Australia) – U.S. PREMIERE - Stunning island music and dance from the Indian and Pacific Oceans, that preserves history, culture and our planet's future.

7pm June 16: GIANTS OF THE DEEP

The Forest Stands Tall (Abbey Dias, Seattle, in-person Q&A) - Dive into California's kelp forests with this Seattle scientist and new filmmaker!
2022 Ocean Fest Youth Story Contest film winners (filmmakers in-person) - The best of this year!
Giant Pacific Octopus (Samantha Hanna, Gig Harbor, in-person Q&A) - Explore under the Narrows Bridge to find the elusive octopus of legend and science. Featuring local divers!

7pm June 17: FOR LOVE OF ORCAS

For the Love of Salmon (Jan Vozenilek, Canada) - A short about the extraordinary lengths one Indigenous woman will swim to raise awareness of her beloved salmon species.
Coextinction (Gloria Pancrazi, Canada, virtual Q&A) - Go on a journey around the Salish Sea to discover how we can protect our resident orcas - and ourselves.

Explore low tide!
Join our fabulous marine biologist Orian Grant for guided wildlife walks at super low-tide. Free! All ages. 2-3pm Sat June 18: Owen Beach; 3-4pm Sun June 19: Titlow Beach. Explore this incredible world and the animals who call it home.

 We lift up diverse voices and bring our community together with arts, sciences and water fun to celebrate the ocean, learn about its threats and get inspired to protect it.
