Position at noon: 620 45 N 1660 03' W - 200 km south of Nome
Nome to Noon 108 nm
Avg. speed: 5.5 kts
Miles to False Pass 475 miles
Course bearing: 1850
Sea state & wx: wind SW 10 to 20 kts (20 to 40 km), SE swells
4'
Water temp: 8.0 0C
Crew: Ben, Brad & Kevin
Remarks: Throw off mooring lines at 4:20 PM. Seas were
lively when we got outside the new harbor entrance and it is slow with a
head wind, but it is nice to be at sea again. People were very nice at Nome
and the place is very interesting, but 5 days is a long time at one place
when you are on the move. Besides that it was unusually cold, fog and rain.
Can't go up the Yukon River as we had hoped because too much swell at the
mouth of the river in the shallows. At high tide there is still only 6 feet
of water and with a 6 foot swell we would be hitting bottom.
We expect to fetch False Pass in 4 days at this pace.
