Celebrate the shoreline at extreme low tide on Vashon-Maury Island June 23
at this local familty friendly event!
Explore, discover, and take in the sights of Puget Sound marine life that
appear only at certain times a year during the eighth annual Vashon-Maury
Island Low Tide Celebration, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 23, 2013, at
Point Robinson.
The day’s low tide will be -3.4 feet, giving participants an opportunity to
gently explore the tide pools with the help of the Vashon Beach Naturalists
as guides.
Bring the whole family to this free, local, educational, and all natural
event. Highlights include:
· Welcome Skipper Mike Evans and the Blue Heron Canoe Family with a
traditional Salish welcoming song as they paddle their way to the Point to
honor the celebration.
· Learn about traditional native uses of shoreline resources from
Odin Lonning, Tlingit artist and cultural educator.
· Tour the Point Robinson Lighthouse and hear about its history from
Head Keeper, Captain Joe Wubbold.
· Witness the beauty of the Maury Island Aquatic Reserve and learn
the many ways you can help protect this valuable natural resource.

Free parking will be available along Point Robinson Road and a
complimentary shuttle bus will transport people between the parking and
the festivities during the event. Refreshments, native crafts and Low Tide
T-shirts will also be available for sale.
