We are a 28 foot "semi-displacement" Camano Trawler (aka Camano 31) with a
home port in Connecticut. We have spent the last two winters in the Florida
Keys and Abaco and are looking for insurance which better suits our schedule
and budget.
We are going to spend some time checking out a new boat insurance policy.
- We don't like our present restriction requiring us to stay north of
Morehead City (or other location nearby) until November 1. October 1 or
somewhere in Georgia would be ok.
- We want to make certain that we are covered in the Bahamas (at least
the Abacos). VERBALLY, our broker has told us that we are covered in Abaco,
but the policy says "60 miles offshore" and my quick estimate on the
computer shows Hopetown as approximately 160 nautical miles from Lake Worth
as the crow flies.
- Obviously, we want to pay as little as possible.
The Admiral has decreed that we will be on the hard in Connecticut for this
coming winter, so we're not in any real hurry.
We have heard that Progressive may have a reasonable policy but, our initial
inquiry with the nearest agent leaves a few unanswered questions.
Any ideas out there? Have any of you solved the above problems for a
reasonable price?
