Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsMight I suggest you upgrade to a pontoon boat with a covered area for
sleeping and weather. A guy just completed it this year. Probably will save you
money in the long run. Carry fuel cans that you can take to gas stations
and save money. Throw on some ice chests and a propane grill and the pontoon
boat will pay for itself. Sell it when you are done.

My friend and I (both retired and previous Trawler owners) are considering
doing the Great Loop in very small boats (under 12 ft). Is this crazy to
even think about? or is it doable given the types of water that we will
have during such a trip. We are somewhat experienced boaters but no
experience with the Great Loop. We obviously would not be living on the
boats, but just using them to get from point A to B to C, etc. Any advice
appreciated.
