Music Fans, Here's what's going on this week: Tuesday March 8th The Kareem Kandi World Orchestra will be hosting our weekly jazz jam session at Joeseppi's in Tacoma WA, This week will feature Shanan K. on Bass and Brian Kirk on drums. 8pm. all ages welcome, no cover charge. Friday March 11th The Kareem Kandi World Orchestra will be performing at The Social Bar and Grill in Tacoma WA. We'll be featuring the great Jay Thomas on trumpet and will be joined by Greg Feingold on bass and Max Holberg on drums. 8pm, all ages welcome, no cover charge. Reservations are highly recommended. About our guest: Jay is on over 100 CDs, including 21 as leader or co-leader. Jay has also recorded with many heavy-weight players, most notably Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins, Ray Brown, and Elvin Jones. Jay's first two CDs, Easy Does It on Discovery Records and Blues For McVouty on Stash Records, featured Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins. 360 Degrees on Hep Records and Rapture on Jazz Focus continued to establish Jay's reputation. Jay's later CDs from McVouty Records alternated between live and studio recordings, and all have the feel of the clubs where Jay was first baptized into the world of jazz. Jay recorded with Herb Ellis on Roll Call and with Bud Shank on, On the Trail. The Bud Shank CD was Conti Condoli's last recording. Jay plays tenor and soprano sax in a sextet setting with Conti, Bill Mays piano, Joe LaBarbera drums, Bob Magnuson bass, and Bud Shank on alto. Two recordings have Jay teamed up with jazz greats, Ray Brown (Blues for Dexter, Wolfetones Records) and Elvin Jones (Jones for Elvin, Hip City Records). His three most current CDs feature; Matt Wilson, Gary Smulyan, and Yuki Hirate. Also of note is Jay's recording with the Oliver Groenewald NewNet, I Always Knew, released on Origin Records.
