Beautiful warm weather with no wind  making the water smooth as glass and excellent conditions for scanning for ducks. Add that to the sun behind your back lighting all the birds up with head gloss being seen on Scaup and Goldeneyes and a beautiful sunset and it was a very nice walk out there. The results:

37 Brant
3 Canada Geese
14 American Black Ducks
8 Mallards
7,000 Scaup sp! -- a rough estimate, a band of scaup all the way from Seaside Park in Bridgeport to the reef thousands strong. Mostly Greater, but certaintly a few Lesser in there as well, maybe about 50.
1 Black Scoter--- a pleasant surprise among the scaup, female
4 White-winged Scoters--- their numbers have decreased dramatically in the past few weeks
6 Long-tailed Ducks
7 Bufflehead--- a rather odd group that has been sticking around for a while now
44 Common Goldeneye
4 Red-breasted Mergansers
1 Iceland Gull-- a first-winter among the many Herrings, Ring-billeds, and Great Black-backeds
1 Lesser Black-backed Gull
1 Lapland Longspur--- flyover heading east
