PRWC Members and Friends,
Please join us for the next Puyallup River Watershed Council forum this coming Wednesday, August 25th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. We meet in the Council Chambers at Sumner City Hall, located at 1104 Maple Street in downtown Sumner. Drive directions to Sumner City Hall can be found online at http://tinyurl.com/239pqlz.
This month's forum will focus on a major planning effort underway to address river flooding on large rivers in Pierce County. Lorin Reinelt, PhD, Pierce County Surface Water Management, will provide an update on the work done to-date on the Pierce County Rivers Flood Hazard Management Plan, as well as an overview of the tasks still to be completed before the draft plan is released in Spring 2011. We'll also learn about several associated studies and analyses (e.g., sediment transport, economic impacts), the flooding problems identified for inclusion in the plan, and how public input is being incorporated into the process.
River flooding is a significant issue in the Puyallup River Watershed, with recent floods of record occurring in 2006, 2008 and 2009. We hope you'll join us for this discussion of how flood hazard management issues are being addressed in our watershed and countywide.
An agenda for this meeting and notes from our last meeting are available online at www.piercecountywa.org/prwc. For information about the Pierce County Rivers Flood Hazard Management Plan in advance of our meeting, please see www.piercecountywa.org/floodplanhttp://www.piercecountywa.org/floodplan.
Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. Thanks much and we'll look forward to seeing you next week!
