Hellow Ontbirders
I visited the Non-quon sewage lagoons this morning, Sat Aug 17. The padlock has been removed from the gate, and I was able to enter. Please respect the hard work which has been done by Geoff Carpentier to regain access to this site, and do not enter without first purchasing your permit. You may be asked to present your permit while on site.
Shorebird numbers were fairly low (numbers are rough estimates):
Killdeer (25)
Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs (100)
Solitary Sandpiper (1)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Least Sandpiper (10)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (2)
Short-billed Dowitcher (3)
Also present were hundreds of Bonapartes Gulls, lots of Black and Caspian Terns, Green and Blue-winged Teal, Ruddy Ducks, 2 tagged Trumpeter Swans, 1 Double-crested Cormorant (the first I have seen there), and 1 adult non-breeding male (Lesser?) Scaup.
The Port Perry (Non-quon) Sewage Lagoons are located east of Highway 12 on Scugog 8th Line. Enter at the east gate. A permit is required to enter the site. It can be purchased during business hours for $5.00 at the Port Perry Waste Management Site, which is located east of Highway 12 on Reach Road in Port Perry. (This is one road south of the sewage lagoons) They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
