Cape Horn trawlers all have bilge keels. These are appendages welded outboard and parallel to the centerline keel. They provide passive stabilization both at anchor and against beam seas. They are not as efficient underway as active fin stabilization but they do help provide resistance against roll. Additionally they allow the vessel to be intentionally grounded whether for checking zincs, bottom cleaning, or faking a whoops moment.
