Interesting information on Hay Fu II but it doesn't tell the whole story.
Firstly I agree with Brian Eiland, "not very pretty". Trawlercat Marine was
the designer of the original Hay Fu and I had it built at A.F. Theriault
which was just down the road from our design office in Meteghan at the time.
The original Hay Fu started out as a TCM 55' which Capt. Brian project
managed. As the boat was nearing completion of the exterior construction
stage the owner decided to extend it by 5' aft if the transom, which we did
and then moved some items around internally to allow for the additional aft
buoyancy and re-trim the boat.
The construction commenced in 1999 and as A.F. Theriault had never built a
boat in foam sandwich before and relied on TCM's plans and specifications to
build the boat. Due to their inexperience in this building medium they were
a little heavy handed with the scantlings and over built the vessel to
ensure it was strong. This resulted in Hay Fu being completed over the
designed weight and in a catamaran this means it will and did have a little
nose down trim. We advised bulb bows be fitted to compensate which Captain
Brian had fitted down South.
The additional weight also meant the designed engines did not achieve the
designed speed, but all in all the owner was extremely pleased with the
level of comfort and enjoyed many years onboard. As a custom built vessel
we supplied a set of as built plans to the owner, which is customary in case
there is any damage that needs to be repaired and re-built following the
same design scantlings.
During the build period my lady friend and I became good friends with
Captain Brian and his soon to be wife Lyn and when they decided to get
married in Victoria on Vancouver Island they asked us to be their witness at
their wedding. We took the ferry to Victoria and although they didn't
exactly elope, we were the only ones invited to the wedding which was held
in a beautiful public park setting surrounded by brightly colored flowers.
We had a private reception at an Italian restaurant and I paid for the
evening as a wedding gift to the happy couple.
After about six years of ownership Hay Fu's owner decided he wanted a larger
catamaran and as he was so happy with Hay Fu he decided he wanted a larger
version of the same design but with some upgrades and built lighter to
perform a little better. Instead of coming back to me for the new design
Captain Brian had a naval architect friend in Florida who owned or worked
for the company Gulf Breeze do the work, much to my surprise and chagrin.
Captain Brian gave the TCM design plans to his friend and they worked
together to design Hay Fu II as a larger version of my original. The
interior design is a larger almost exact replica and it still retains many
of the unique features of the original design.
Captain Brian even decided to use the same builder, A.F. Theriault who by
now had had a lot more experience building fiberglass boats. By this time I
had moved my design office to Vancouver and had two full time naval
architects in my employ which Captain Brian was aware of. Captain Brian
phoned me to ask me if I would sell him my house in Meteghan as he wanted to
move there to build Hay Fu II. After some consideration I said yes and the
deal was done, Brian and Lyn moved in and project managed the construction
of Hay Fu II and that is the end of another plagiarized boat design story.

Looking thru some photos tonight, and this one caught my attention again.
Just couldn't let these photos languish on my computer. These were taken
in Thailand.
I titled it weekender/picnic boat, but really she is large enough for a
nice long cruise.
