Fellow Municipal Attorneys:

Numerous Oklahoma cities and towns (or their public trusts) received extremely high natural gas invoices for the month of February.  For example, the Grove Municipal Services Authority supplies gas to approximately 4,000 customers, as well as to Afton, Fairland and Jay.  When their supply ran low, their officials notified the customers of the need to immediately curb usage due to the skyrocketing cost of natural gas.  Their customers complied, but the increased purchase cost will certainly have a huge impact.

David Weatherford is the City Attorney for the City of Mannford.  He noted that the City's monthly invoice from BlueMark, the supplier, went from $71,000.00 to $400,000.00.  He is working with several other municipal attorneys to develop strategies to handle these devastating financial concerns.  If your city or town is experiencing this same issue, please contact David at davidweatherford@sbcglobal.net.

Have a great weekend and I hope that you all are enjoying this beautiful weather!
