My wife and I have been discussing doing the great loop when we retire.
The big unknown is the cost to do this adventure. We realize that fuel
cost is based on the boat. Outside of the cost of fuel what has been your
experinces for cost of docks, anchorages misc other times.
We are the type that enjoy anchoring out and occasionally hitting a dock
in
really bad weather. We typically cook on board so access to resturants is
not a priority.
Your experinces and opinions in this area would be most helpful
Kindest regards

$1k-$2k per foot..?......But that also depends on what you include. Some
people are including medical insurance in their Loop cost tallies. I don't
consider that a part of doing the Loop because I would have that even if I
was not doing the Loop. Now you are required by law to have it if you are
breathing !! Similarly, one could assign that same logic to groceries or
eating out.
Same with boat maintenance...is that a real Loop cost or is that simply the
cost of being a boat owner? If I need new tires for my car I don't assign
that cost to a specific road trip with that car.
My point is that there is no agreed-upon Loop Expense Spread sheet with
which we all can use to populate with our own numbers. Everyone's spread
sheet has different and some common categories.
That's one thing that a good Great Loop organization should be
suggesting/offering to its members - a standardized spread sheet of expected
costs that was derived from numerous past Loopers' data and normalized for a
boat type similar to yours i.e. one for a single engine boat, another for a
twin engine boat, etc.

After two loops I would say $1,000 to $2,000 a foot.
Each morning I look out the window and there is my boat in the back yard on
the Champlain Canal. These days she is beached for winter and frozen to
the ground, but in another 8-9 months it'll all thaw and she'll float
again. This is my own personal slice of heaven.
I don't count my boat costs as a separate item, it is my life ... and
ranks right up there with breathing.
Boating is not an expense, it is my life.
