Dear Randy & Carol,
My name is Clark Boeken, designer and builder of Cruiser Cats' Havana 38 and
Tortuga 42 power catamarans based in Cape Town, South Africa - although my
residence is in San Antonio, TX. My yachts are beachable with prop
protected Malcolm Tennant designs. Most cats with this design can be
beached and small skegs can be added to the length of the hulls to help
protect the bottom. Now for the bad news - I don't recommend it and on a
permanent basis it isn't advisable to beach your boat. On the other hand,
if you want to beach it for a day watching the tides you can do so. A lot
of damage can be done by leaving your boat beached not to mention warranties
by manufacturers, as strainers for air conditioners, motors, etc may be
clogged by debris, mud or silt. So my advice is to find a mooring further
out to tie to or a slip/berth. Beach your boat when picking up family,
friends or supplies, or when on an outing. Goodluck and enjoy your new
adventure!
Kind regards,
Clark E. Boeken
