Counselors:
Its me again. Now the chief says we have squatters in abandoned building in town. Since the town does not own it, I do not think we have standing to get an FED/writ of assistance in district court. Any ideas how we can help these folks move along?
Thanks again.

I agree the city has no standing to get an FED. Also, why should the City take on responsibility to protect the owner's property if he doesn't think it is worth his effort. That said, if persons are purporting to reside in the residential structure, your town likely has ordinances that require connection to sanitary sewer, obtaining water service, and trash service. Having someone approach the squatters to explain that they must have these services to live in the home might help, if the town wants to take on that project.
