Maine Cat, builder of 30' and 41' open  bridgedeck sailing cats, has just
announced their entry into the powercat market  with their new Powercat 38.  The
boat measures 38' x 16' x  2'-7" x 12' (air clearance) and will weigh 14,000
lbs empty and 22,800  pounds fully loaded.  Profile is reminiscent of a
Downeast express  cruiser.  Power will be twin 100 HP Yanmars expected to provide a
15-kt  cruise speed with a 4 gal/hr fuel burn.  With 250 gallons of fuel,
they're  projecting a 900 nm range.  Sounds a bit optimistic to me, but they are
obviously shooting for extreme efficiency with their 12-to-1 beam ratio hulls
and light weight.
I hope they pull it off.  To me it  has the appearance of a winner!
More info is available on their  website: www.mecat.com/indexpower.htm
