I have one also. I don't use it all that often since I've gotten a very
nice Ballantine auto-balance unit.
I'd suggest a thorough cleaning to start. My initial guesses would be
the zero potentiometer itself, followed by the range switch, followed
by dirty pcbs. Even when working perfectly, the meter will bounce
around a little bit on the most sensitive range just from the intrinsic
circuit noise.
If you still have unacceptable noise levels, suspect a noisy component.
That's going to be a bit harder to diagnose.
BTW, do you have the mod to replace the old, impossible to find,
mercury battery reference with a more modern battery? If not (or even
if you do), be sure the battery voltage is correct.

They said 'Windows or better'
so I used Linux.

I bought a Fluke 845B on e-bay and it seems to work except that it is very noisy
on the most sensitive ranges, the drift/noise is up to +/- 10uV and it is very
difficult to try and zero it (read impossible).  I would like to repair it but I
would appreciate some suggestions on what the problem might be and what I shoul
d look for.

Thanks,

Randy Evans, AE6YG
