Visitors:
We appreciate all the interest in the tower and the hawk watch but remind
everyone that the tower remains closed to members of the public and has a
three-person limit reserved for the Hawk Counters. Thank you to all w
Weather:
An excellent November day for a stroll in your local park, but not so much
for successful hawk watching. The South-Western winds and warm temperatures
did not bring many hawks to the area. On the bright side, the temperature
reached 14 degrees Celsius and the sun shone brightly, giving us a healthy
dose of vitamin D.
Raptor Observations:
Another day with very few raptors, only 19 migrants passed out tower today.
The lucky winners were 9 Turkey Vultures, a Northern Harrier, 2 adult
Red-shouldered Hawks, and 5 Red-tailed Hawks. Our first bird was also our
most interesting; a Merlin! The small falcon caught the corner of our eye
as it tried to sneak past below the tower and onto the marsh. So lovely to
see a few more of these fiery falcons!
Non-raptor Observations:
American Goldfinches and Horned Larks took to the sky today, with 236 and
130 individuals, respectively.
One Belted Kingfisher is still active on the marsh and is constantly
patrolling its territory.
On the marsh, American Black Ducks and Northern Shovelers are making a name
for themselves. A few flocks of Red-breasted Merganser flew over the marsh,
while a big raft of Canvasbacks could be seen on Lake Erie.

Predictions:
These changes in temperature are giving me whiplash! Tomorrow will be
drastically different than the last few days and more in line with November
weather. Temperatures will drop and hover around 5 degrees Celsius with a
heavy cloud cover all day. Luckily, gentle winds will be coming from the
North, which should push some raptors towards us! Join me in crossing all
of our fingers and all of our toes for a good buteo day!
