Tacoma Arts Live would like to announce our Civil Rights Legacy Tour Audition:

Seeking Actors/Performers ages 18+, to perform 11 Days in the Life of Dr. King

Auditions
Monday, November 14, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Tacoma Armory, Roosevelt Room (enter up the big ramp)
1001 S. Yakima Ave
Tacoma, WA  98405

Auditionees are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to the audition and plan to stay for the full two hours.  Auditionees may be released early as necessary.

Please bring a head shot and resume and come prepared with a 1 minute poem or monologue as well as a verse and/or chorus from a song of your choosing to be sung a capella.  There will also be a dance portion to the audition, so dress in clothing that is comfortable for movement.  No particular dance footwear is needed.  Actors may also be asked to read from the script during auditions.

Seeking Actors/Performers ages 18 or older for a four-person ensemble to perform 11 Days in the Life of Dr. King. The show is comprised of 11 poems performed as spoken word and underscored by music, dance, pantomime and shadow work.  This production tours to K-12 schools, museums and community centers in the South Sound and potentially state-wide.  The primary audience is students, teachers and families. The production is 35 minutes long, with a scripted 10-minute audience reflection led by the actors following each performance.

Desired skills include: Acting/spoken word, vocal training, ability to work well with children; Dance background in Contemporary/Modern, Creative Movement and/or West African a plus

Tentative Rehearsal Schedule:
December 12 - 16  from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.
December 19 - 22  from  9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.
January 4 - 6 & 9 - 10 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
(rehearsal schedule is flexible based on performers' availability)

Tour Dates:  January 11 - January 31, 2022, with a possible extension through February 8 based on demand for bookings.

Company members must be available from 5 a.m.- 6 p.m. during the performance window to allow for travel time to and from the performance sites.  Most performances will take place Monday - Friday. However, there are possible public performances on January 15 and/or 16, as well a video shoot of the production to be scheduled based on the availability of the performers, crew, and space. On performance days, Company Members will travel in Tacoma Arts Live vehicle(s) from Tacoma Arts Live to the performance sites and back to Tacoma Arts Live.

Compensation:
Performers are hired as part time employees of Tacoma Arts Live. Tacoma Arts Live shall pay each performer a guaranteed amount of $2,500. Payment shall be made by payroll check at the rate of $16/hr on the regular bi-weekly payroll schedule, for an estimated 180 hours for rehearsals and the initial touring window of Jan 11 - Jan 31. The difference, if any, between the guaranteed amount and gross wages for hours worked will be paid on the final paycheck. Should the tour extend through Feb 8, there will be additional working hours paid to the performers beyond the guarantee. Performers are required to study on their own time and come to rehearsals and performances prepared. Performers are paid for time spent in rehearsal, traveling to performance sites, loading in and setting up at each site, performing at the site, and loading out at each site. There may be long breaks within a given performance day, depending on schedule, where the performers will be off the clock until their second performance of the day.
