I took the following quote from the first site mentioned. Can someone
interpret what it really means?

"But this powerboat takes a lot of biodiesel. It holds as much as 3,000
gallons of biodiesel, enough to double the weight of the vessel. One
refueling lasts awhile, however: It can travel from Vancouver to Acapulco,
Mexico, on two full diesel engines tanks."

Does the writer mean 6000 gallons? Does she have twin engines?

The boat holds 2500 gallons of fuel.  See

http://www.earthrace.net/view.asp?webpage=146

where you can get the basic specs:

 * Hull: Wavepiercing Trimaran
 * Length: 24m (78ft)
 * Beam: 7m (23ft)
 * Draft: 1.3m (4ft)
 * Range: 3000nm (6000km)
 * Maximum speed: 45 knots (90km/h)*
 * Fuel: B100 Biodiesel (100%)
 * Fuel Capacity: 10,000 litres (2500 gallons)
 * Displacement: 10 ton
 * Construction: Carbon , Kevlar composites
 * Crew: 4
 * Beds: 8
 * Engines: 2 x 350kW (540 hp) Cummins Mercruiser
 * Gearboxes: ZF 305A (single speed)
 * Air intakes: top of wings to remain above waves while piercing
 * Windscreen: 17mm laminated toughened glass

I would say it is pretty light for an eighty foot boat.

Best,

Steve

At 30 knots she would consume around 25 gallons per hour?

Hi Ron,

I'm not sure of the fuel burn at 30 knots - but Pete Bethune told me that
they planned to cruise at 15 knots for the long distance runs during their
round the world race - to maximize fuel efficiency and range.
