Ontario Rare Bird Alert for the week starting January 14, 2022

Details: I have tried to indicate the finder, where known. My apologies to
those who I have left out.

BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCK (Niagara): The long-staying bird remained at
Dufferin Islands to at least January 19.

King Eider (Hamilton): Anthony Zammit reported a female from the Hamilton
side of the Burlington Ship Canal January 15. Several observers reported a
young male and a female together off the Sayer's Park area of Stoney Creek
January 16 and at least the young male still there on January 19.

Harlequin Duck (Algoma): The female off Whitefish Island, Sault Ste. Marie
was photographed by Carter Dorscht on January 16.
Harlequin Duck (Bruce): Bob and Anne-Marie Taylor photographed one bird off
Kincardine on January 16 and then photographed a group of three birds off
Inverhuron Provincial Park on January 18.
Harlequin Duck (Halton): The male found by Mark Jennings off Suncor Pier in
Oakville continued to at least January 14. Ian Jarvie photographed a female
at Bronte Bluffs Park January 18.
Harlequin Duck (Lambton): Mike Bouman found a female near Courtright on
January 14 and it was still in the same general area to at least January
16. Mike Bouman then refound what was presumably the same bird a little
further south near Sombra on January 17 where it was seen again to at least
January 18.

Barrow's Goldeneye (Grey): The Owen Sound Harbour bird continued.
Barrow's Goldeneye (Ottawa): One male continued from the Strathcona Park
area this week and another male was reported from Britannia CA.

RAZORBILL (Niagara): Up to three birds were seen at once again this week,
off Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Black-legged Kittiwake (Niagara): At least one bird was seen again this
week from the Queenston sand docks area with reports on January 15 and 16.

GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL (Brant): The bird  found last week by Sarah Lamond and
Kathleen Gardiner at the Grand River from Scarfe Ave was seen again on
January 14.

Black Vulture (Niagara): Up to 2 birds were reported from Queenston this
week.

Gyrfalcon (Bruce): One bird was photographed on the lower Bruce Peninsula
January 16.

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (Halton): Both birds at Sedgewick Forest Park were
reported this week to at least January 16.

MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD (Wellington): The bird found two weeks ago remained at
the Powerline Trail to January 16.

Townsend's Solitaire (Thunder Bay): Up to two birds were reported again
this week from Mountain Rd area of Thunder Bay.

Gray-cheeked Thrush (Toronto): The bird reported last week from Ashbridge's
Bay Park was seen by many again this week to at least January 16.

GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW (Toronto): The Scarborough Golden-crowned Sparrow
found by Karl Konze continued this week.
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW (Waterloo): Georg Hentsch's bird at his feeders on
Bannister Lake was enjoyed by many happy birders again this week.

Harris's Sparrow (Hamilton): The Inksetter Rd bird continued this week.
Harris's Sparrow (Prescott and Russell): The bird at 1696 Vankleek Hill Rd
remained all week. The owner reports that "Birders welcome btwn 9am-noon in
the front yard. The bird is very skittish and often hides in the spruce
tree or birch before feeding on the ground with the juncos, etc. The feeder
is visible from the street and front yard beside the driveway High traffic
county road, be safe."

Indigo Bunting (Bruce): The bird visiting feeders in Kincardine was
reported again this week.
