NCL Members,

The National Coalition for Literacy (NCL) is hosting its annual membership meeting on October 7th from 1pm-5pm, here in Washington, D.C., most likely at the Hall of the States, 444 North Capitol Street NW. The board is currently working on the agenda, but as usual you can count on a robust public policy discussion and informative guest presenters, including representatives from OCTAE. We will also hold our annual board election and discuss our plans for 2015-2016.

For those of you who are able to be in D.C. early on the 7th, you will also have the opportunity to attend the Committee for Education Funding's annual legislative conference, which runs from 8:30am - 12pm at the Canon House Office Building (just a stone’s throw away from the Hall of the States). This is a benefit of our membership in CEF that those of you not based in D.C. usually don’t get a chance to participate in, so we thought we’d schedule our own annual meeting to coincide with this event. This will provide you with an opportunity to interact not only with your colleagues in adult education but also the broader education advocacy community here in D.C. and important folks on the Hill. In addition to staff from key Senate and House committees, this year’s conference includes a business panel featuring executives discussing the importance of investing in education.

Registration and detailed agenda to follow — for now I just wanted to make sure everyone got this in their calendar.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.

Jeff

I also have details on the agenda. Our agenda will include:

• Member Updates;
• Advocacy and policy update;
• Review and discussion of NCL priorities for rhe coming year;
• Election of 2015-16 board members;
• Briefing on the Barbara Bush Adult Literacy XPrize with Liza McFadden, CEO of the Barbara Bush Foundation;

Due to the likely numbers of people attending, I’ve moved the meeting to the ALA DC office (where we usually meet). Thanks to NCL member ALA for hosting us. The meeting will start promptly at 1pm as planned. However, we will have a light lunch set up by around 12:30, so feel free to come early.

For those unable to attend, we will arrange for people to call in. I will send the call-in info next week.

After you RSVP, please let me know whether you plan to attend the CEF legislative conference (see below) by sending an email to: ncl@ncladvocacy.org mailto:ncl@ncladvocacy.org, and I will send you the pertinent details...

Thanks,

Jeff
