Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsMy wife, Judy, and I attended a Vero Beach Power Squadron meeting last Monday. One of the members was at the local Yacht Club next to the Squadron building, when he saw two Customs and Border Protection Officers on the dock at the and engaged them in conversation!
They informed him that they were responsible for inspecting all boats not registered in the united States and specifically Canadian due to the volume of Canadian boats on the Indian River.
They are checking the papers for the boats and the papers for the people on the boats, passports and visitor permits!
Just a heads up to let anyone you know that falls into this category to be extra diligent about having all thier documents in order and ready to be presented upon request!
Also a note to all out of state boaters visiting Florida. The state has done away with its Sojourner permit (may be reinstated by next Winter) and current law now requires all out of state boaters to Register their boats in Florida if staying in the state for more than 90 days.
It is a good idea to check on the current status prior to spending more than 90 days there!!!
