Hello Gators,Tomorrow's Tri Club workout at Blue Marsh Lake (Leesport, PA) is a go! Current weather forecast is partly/mostly sunny with temps starting in the low 50s when we arrive and ending in the mid 60s by the end of the run. Should be a great day, but it will definitely be cool for the open water swim. It will also be cooler than you think on the bike (especially after the swim), so prepare accordingly (layers, gloves, maybe a jacket, maybe arm warmers, maybe pants). And don't forget to lather on plenty of sunscreen!
Some details... Schedule (approximate):8:00am-8:30am: Arrive at Blue Marsh "Dry Brooks Days Use Area" entrance and prepare for swim (i.e. get your wetsuit on). The gates typically open between 8am-8:10am and there is often a line of cars on the side of Palisades Rd. waiting to get in. It's early in the season, so hopefully the line will not be very long.8:30am-9:00am: Open water swim... This will mostly be a "get acclimated to the cool water temp and your wetsuit" swim, so no specific workout planned. The goal is to be in the water for 15-30 minutes. There are buoys that clearly mark the swim area which we will review prior to starting.9:15am-10:30am: Start of bike ride. It is hilly and one loop will take 1-1.5 hours. After bike (around 10:30am): Short 20-30 minute run.Swim location (as well as starting point for bike and run portions): "Dry Brooks Day Use Area" beach (see pinkish colored area towards center left on the map below)Where is this place? Use this address for directions that will get you pretty close to the park entrance that gets you close to (but not exactly to) the Dry Brooks Day Use Area entrance... 1268 Palisades Dr., Leesport, PA (it's about a 45 minute drive from the Y to Blue Marsh)When you enter the park...You will likley have to pay a $3 entry fee if the pay station is open right near the entranceJust keep following the winding drive into the park... It ends at the beach area parking lot.Park map link: http://www.nap.usace.army.mil/Portals/39/docs/Civil/Blue_Marsh/trail%20map.pdf More park info: http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/projects.cfm?ID=E501780My cell phone number (in case you get lost): 610-909-0694If you are planning to come, let me know so that we can look for you...
