From Ben Gray aboard Idlewild:
Hi Georgs,
Sounds like a good plan.
We have always tied up at Shelter Island Marina on the Fraser River
above Steveston Marina. I had planned to go there to unload the boat
and inquire about putting it on the hard for the winter. Steveston
is a big fishing boat dock where the tall ships have come in.
We could stop at almost any place north of Vancouver or on Vancouver
Island. We don't have any exact date to be anywhere as yet. We are
still trying to organize everyones summer holidays so they can share
the trip, or part of it, from Juneau to Vancouver. This will
probably be the last trip for boat and family of this kind so we are
in no particular hurry to end it, but most have work or other demands.
We have other friends in the general Vancouver area who may like to
join us as well. If someone could try to select a spot and time we
will try to work to it. There is nothing special about Aug 20, but
is our best guess on arrival at Vancouver.
Take care, Ben Gray
A bunch of guys who have been following Idlewild on Passagemaking
Under Power List are talking about organizing a flotilla of a few
boats to come out and meet you on your arrival in Vancouver.
What is known about where you are likely do dock in Vancouver? What
will be your stop just preceding Vancouver? Is there something
special about August 20?
Once plans gel, we're thinking of inviting George Buehler to
participate, and maybe let the builder know, too.
