Date/time:                July 4, 2006, 12:00 local (z-9)
Position at noon:        57D07'N 164D08'W
250 km north of False Pass, Alaska
Noon to Noon              182 nm
Avg. speed:              7.6 kts
Miles to False Pass      136 miles
Course bearing:          169D
Sea state:                W Swells, 1'
The Bering Sea has a wild, and unruly reputation, but one-foot
swells in the open sea is the calmest we have ever seen.
Wx:                      Wind SE 0 to 10 kts (0 to 20km)
Water temp:              9.5D C
Crew:                    Ben, Brad & Kevin
Remarks:
We like these calm seas.  It's not what we expected here, but it is nice.
Two hot meals every day when it's calm.
We have the most birds we have seen anywhere, and we are far from shore;
must be lots of food.
