As a Florida-based DeFever owner (49RPH) looking to go offshore/foreign, I
am having quite a bit of difficulty finding US-based insurance
carriers. While I can find coverage in the London market, it appears
virtually no one in the U.S. market is looking to write coverage. At least
no one I have found. It is not a question of risk history, as I am totally
claim free, with experience in both sail and power (to 50 feet) over a
period of forty years and with a USCG 100 ton Masters license. I am being
lead to believe part of it is being based in hurricane prone Florida and
part is that the insurance companies are only seeking to cover $1M plus
hull values and desire Captained vessels.
Could others please share their insurance companies and experiences with me
to help me seek out US-based underwriters/brokers who will write foreign
coverage.
Thanks.
