Deconstructing The Beatles' Abbey Road Side One June 27 | 1:30pm & 6:45pm
NR. 1hr 30min
Abbey Road was the last time that the Beatles recorded together at EMI
Studios—soon-to-be-christened Abbey Road Studios after the album’s release.
Despite the bittersweet atmosphere that surrounded the recording sessions,
The Beatles’ outstanding songs and performances together with George
Martin’s orchestrations produced an album that continues to be regarded as
one of the best albums ever created.

In Deconstructing Abbey Road, Beatleologist Scott Freiman has created one
of his most in-depth “deconstructions.” Freiman takes the audience on a
journey track-by-track explaining the inspiration for the songs and their
evolution in the studio.

Yesterday | Directed by Danny Boyle Starring Himesh Patel, Lily James,
Kate McKinnon Opens Friday, June 28

PG-13. 1hr 56min
Jack Malik is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town
whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and
support of his childhood best friend, Ellie. Then, after a freak bus
accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover
that The Beatles have never existed... and he finds himself with a very
complicated problem, indeed.

"A glowing tribute to The Beatles and their music, this is both a
toe-tapping pleasure to watch and a smart, occasionally scathing look at
how we get things wrong.
" — Helen O'Hara, Empire Magazine

The Hunger | R. 1hr 37min July 20 | 11:00pm Pride Film Series | Weird
Elephant Series

David Bowie as a vampire is reason enough for The Hunger to make our
music films shortlist. Further: the film's got a storied impact on goth
music and subculture
https://www.rebelsmarket.com/blog/posts/the-hunger-bauhaus-bowie-and-vampires
:

"The opening shot of The Hunger is of Bauhaus’ frontman, Peter Murphy,
performing behind a cage. It begins with the subtle drum tapping intro of
'Bela Lugosi’s Dead' then builds into the screeching guitar as Murphy
appears out of the shadows. Murphy, looking much like a vampire himself,
writhes and twitches to the music, maniacally moving in and out of the
harsh lighting.

This performance by Bauhaus in particular is moody, dark, suspenseful and
would end up being one of their last—they broke up soon after. It’s an
iconic moment in vampire film history as Miriam and John stalk their prey
to the soundtrack of goth royalty. With the song’s distinct lyrics, it
hints as to what happens next in the movie: The bats have left the bell
tower / The victims have been bled.
