Flybridge weight

Reading the discussion on flybridge and the good
points made pro and con, and working on mine at the
same time, I got curious about the weight issue so
made some calculations.

It's a big flybridge covering a cabintop measuring app
18' x 19', and consists of a nose fairing app 7' fore
and aft, and sides.  There is an athwartship bulkhead
full width at the aft end of the nose, companionway to
the pilothouse and a corner settee and table.  It is
open to the boatdeck all the way aft.  Floor area is
app 10' x 18'.

Material weights (foam, epoxy, glass) for the above
came to 554#.  Add a helm chair and some instruments
and the total gets to about 660#.  Add to this a rigid
bimini with supports @ 266#, some lights and cushions
and wind deflector and it gets  to a little over
1,000# for a pretty empty, stark enclosure.  No grill,
sink, icebox, or other common accessories.

Then there's the weight of the solar panel bank on top
of the bimini and wiring....

The  FB weight on this boat centers about on the LCB
but it is 15' above the waterline.  Great visability
to get through the reef, spacious, protected, and a
nice place to dine in fine weather.

There were a couple options on placement.  I could
have tucked it behind the pilothouse using up some
boat-deck space, like the arrangement on Dennis's
(Tennant) WWIV, or like a Fleming.

Instead I opted for stacking it atop the pilothouse
like some of the newer Nordhavns freeing the boatdeck
and getting the most visability and living space.

Regards,
Bill
