Gear question: waders: worthwhile?

Now that we're all home from birding, a (hopefully relevant) gear question:  waders:  useful?
(Btw, are Woodcock still out?  There's not been a report from Silver Sands since 3/6.  Did I miss them?)
Do you find waders, say knee-high, useful?  I have in mind Sandy Point, crossing between banks, & perhaps other places.
Or, do you just get your shoes wet & deal with it?  Or those hiking shoes that let water drain out?  Summer vs. winter?
If useful, where to shop for them?  I've never been to the Bass Pro shop in Bridgeport:  worthwhile?
If you want to reply simply directly & not to the list, that's fine.
Thanks!
