Visitors:
We thank today's observers for their efforts and those interested in the
ongoing Hawk Count. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level
of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The
2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe
precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and
involvement.
Weather:
Today was warm, with temperatures rising to 16 degrees C and skies being
primarily clear with little clouds. Unfortunately winds were southerly
throughout the whole day, leading to reduced raptor movement.
Raptor Observations:
Very slow day, likely due to southerly winds. turkey Vultures were
significantly low with just 51. Northern Harriers have risen up with 7 seen
today. Sharpies and Cooper's Hawks remain in single digits. Poor day for
buteos with only 17 Red Tails. Thankfully, 3 immature Golden Eagles were
seen today.
Non-raptor Observations:
Waterfowl led the diversity of non raptors today, with increasing numbers
of ducks on the marsh. Passerines were low today, and little Blackbird
movement was recorded. Only 2 Blue Jays and 210 Crows passed over the tower
today. Surprisingly, a single monarch was seen today around the tower.
Starling movement was very high with 8000 seen.

Predictions:
Tomorrow it is expected to be slightly cooler with partly cloudy skies and
a chance of rain in the afternoon. Winds are starting easterly but are
hopefully shifting to north-easterly by the afternoon.
