3rd Thursday Newsletter

Issue: 21

Date: October 20, 2022

Dear Reader,

October is Tacoma Arts Month https://tacomaartsmonth.org/, and it all
kicked off this year with Kaleidoscope, the opening party held at the Star
Center. We gathered there with many old friends, some of whom we hadn’t
seen since before the times of Covid-19.

As it has also been in past years, the Studio Tour was fantastic! We
visited many of our favorite artists (including Judith Perry
https://judithperryart.com/, Jessica Spring https://springtidepress.com/,
and Mauricio Robalino http://artpeople.com), but we also got to meet some
new favorites (including Kelsey Parkhurst http://parkhurstkelsey.com, Nicole
Turner https://www.thequiltedline.com/, and Casey Thurman
https://www.northwestdepressed.com/).

The Calendar https://tacomaartsmonth.org/events/ page on Tacoma Arts
Month website makes it easy to find current happenings all month long, so
go out and connect with the amazing creatives in our community!

Come one, come all, for something truly haunting!

Creative Colloquy is also hosting the first in person workshop in recent
memory!  Join Elegies, Obits, and Honoring Life in Writing: A Creative

https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2Felegies-obits-and-honoring-life-in-writing-a-creative-exploration-of-love-tickets-436649870517%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2yZVXd1f_-6og_4V6UA89AB1pWJjw0SrsaqtAbpKtEM0Fg3jI7UL9C2vg&h=AT1IaffdRUGv6RHXiCDw0gyB0vw_1yIS8wews6DyFUVSsHdAwWNzrgl5yYvF1tiNdZV4LQzipJnTu2fA4d0QPOoauPxYvsDk-dAv0ibGBj6GgrOI46pCs2GGcHEPfqxKsw&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT1l2vfB8yiKAJrTc58o6IF8FAaTtplKamjE7ESuX-gyS-tGC6m_Su3wJtQIRVVx7kKPYN72jRKwt-Jm-dwd9F8aJeBOlgasyQszkVOGlmAb95A6zvVr3o8LqBjPl8PHn01S6ZidaVkq0VXigRw9KD551lErvl5YfXn9NRKaZbUB4-vwG7hE2Zjjg9PTRGVcaWndU0gILpvk4RrQwlq6wSXvVA
with Sarah A. Chavez on Sunday, November 6th, at 2pm.

Blue Cactus Press https://bluecactuspress.com/ has a brand new
workshop: Experimental
Writing Forms with Nicole McCarthy
https://bluecactuspress.com/product/ewf/, on October 22, at 11:00a. It is
free from BCP Members (join for some great benefits!), and $25-$40 for all
others.

About the workshop: There are many different ways to say what we're trying
to say: micro essays, lists, hermit crabs, collage, text + visuals, and
more. But why are these writing forms used? Why branch out from what
already works? Let's explore experimental forms that can showcase your work
with nuanced layers. Together, let's find freedom in pushing the boundaries
of what your writing can do.

Lastly, in time for Tacoma Arts Month, Artist Trust
http://artisttrust.org/ is hosting Tacoma Artists Hangout
https://artisttrust.org/events/tacoma-artists-hangout-2/ on Wednesday,
October 26, from 5:00 to 6:30p. The event is free and is presented via
Zoom. As described by the host:

This is a perfect time to connect, network, build community, and talk about
your artistry. Feel free to bring your favorite happy hour treats and kick
back with other Tacoma-based artists. This event is hosted by Artist Trust
and the Office of Arts and Cultural Vitality in celebration of Tacoma Arts
Month and open to artists of all disciplines.

I hope to see you there!

Updates

Wild Rose & Other Poems Sung by the Window, my manuscript of poetry,
continues to be my primary artistic focus now (and into the near future). I
had originally planned to publish this Autumn but am now planning on an
April 2023 date. I am excited and would love to share a poem or two but am
holding back - stay tuned to learn more in the next few months!
