I read your posts about how you came to buy your Aventure 460 Cat and
choose it over the Endeavour 44. However, I guess I am confused after
reading the "Warranty Experiences" page on your website.
How do you reconcile your harsh criticisms about the lack of factory
support, loss of so much money, loss of so much cruising time, and in
fact being outright lied to by the company with your accolades about
the quality of the vessel? It seems like a complete contradiction.

Our warranty experiences with the Builder Aventure Catamaran are
factual and fully documented. We can't change that. And it's true,
Aventure Catamaran as of this date, February 24, 2006, has not paid
one red cent in warranty expenses. In fact Aventure Catamaran has
not paid for our initial trip to South Africa as they promised!
There are positive things about the Aventure 460 see complete website
at http://www.yumyum1.info/http://www.yumyum1.info but warranty
experiences with the builder is not one of them and no one had asked
us about warranty experiences till now. Our warranty experience goes
something like this... "As soon as we sell the new boat we are
building we will reimburse you". That was three or four boats ago!
As I said in the website, I plan on putting copies of actual warranty
emails to them together with pictures taken and Aventure's replies to
us.
Spoke with Boat US people in their "Consumer Protection Division" and
they advised me to send them documentation of the incidences. This
I'm planning to do. Boat US maintains a database of builder
complaints and whether or not they are resolved.
If we were to do it over again Aventure vs Endeavour we definitely
WOULD NOT purchase the Aventure. Would we buy the Endeavour? Maybe,
then again maybe not. There are other options available.
Next time, and yes we are planning to purchase again, we will be a
lot smarter. This time we will retain an attorney specializing in
naval contracts, insist on a better written contract and also insist
on escrowing 5% of sales price into a vessel maintenance escrow
account. Finally set up some type of advance mediation should
warranty conflicts arise.
Best Regards,
Pierre and Linda Barrette
